Grilled Sardines with Lemon

If you like eating flavored food, we recommend that you give this recipe a go. In order to prepare it, you will need 1 pound of fresh sardines, 1/4 cup of lemon juice, 1/4 cup of extra virgin oil, three garlic cloves, one teaspoon of paprika (Spanish/smoked), ½ teaspoon of black pepper (freshly ground), salt and two tablespoons of parsley (fresh and chopped).

To start, use the whisk to mix the olive oil, the paprika, the garlic, the lemon juice and the pepper. Take a shallow baking dish and lay the sardines on the bottom of the bowl. Pour the mixture over them and make sure that they are coated evenly. Let them sit for at least 30 minutes.

Next, prepare the grill by preheating it for 10 minutes. Take the sardines out of the marinade and lay them on the grill for 2 to 3 minutes. Use a spatula to flip them once one side is done. Place them on a plate and use the chopped parsley to garnish them.


Eggs and sardines

To make this recipe, you will need a can of sardines, two cloves of garlic, a small shallot (sliced), parsley, black pepper, four eggs, and salt. Firstly, preheat the oven to 500 degrees (F). Take a warm dish and place the garlic, the sardines, the parsley in it. Add the pepper and then lay the bowl in the oven for five to six minutes.

Secondly, remove the dish from the oven and break the eggs in a bowl and then pour the mix over the sardine. Add salt and pepper and then insert the dish back into the oven for seven more minutes. After the time has passed, take the baking dish out and then leave it to rest for 5 minutes. You can eat this omelet with toast and hot sauce.  If you use the suggested quantities, you’ll have enough for at least four servings.


Moroccan Sardines

You will need 2 lbs. of sardines (as fresh as you can get them), pepper (fresh), ¼ cup of sea salt, and one tablespoon of olive oil. Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees (F). Wash the sardines and use a knife to scrape off any remaining scales. Next, drain the sardines as well as you can.

Take a shallow baking dish and line it with baking paper or with aluminum foil. Then, sprinkle rock salt on the bottom of the bowl and arrange the fish on the salt. Drizzle the olive oil all over the sardines. Add pepper.

Next, bake the sardines for at least 10 minutes until you notice that the skin sides off gently from the fish. Place the sardines on a serving platter and add lemon wedges if you consider it necessary. You can add cumin if you’d like to.


Spaghetti with Sardines

If you are a spaghetti lover and you also enjoy eating sardines, the following combination should suit your needs perfectly. To make this recipe, you will need 400 g of spaghetti, 190 g of canned sardines (they should be boneless and skinless), 100g black olives (chopped), one tablespoon of capers, two garlic cloves, 220 g of tomatoes (chopped), parsley, and chili flakes.

We recommend that you start by cooking the spaghetti in a large pot. To do so correctly, follow the instructions written on the package of the spaghetti box. To make the sauce,  go ahead and heat the oil in a pan and cook the garlic for one minute. Then, add the tomatoes, the chili flakes, and the sardines. Use a wooden spoon to stir the mix. Cook the sauce for at least 10 minutes. Add the olives, some of the parsley, and the capers.

What is more, drain the pasta but save some of the remaining boiled water. Add the pasta to the saucepan. Now, you should also add the saved water. The sauce should have a somewhat thick consistency.


Sardines on Toast

This following Spanish recipe is another idea that we are confident that you will want to try out. To prepare it, you will need one red chili pepper, one tablespoon of olive oil, four slices of brown bread, parsley (chopped), 240 grams of canned sardines, the zest and juice from one lemon and one garlic clove.

First of all, heat the olive oil in a frying pan and then add the red chili, the garlic, and the lemon juice. Next, add the sardines and cook them until they are warm. Toast the bread. Add the parsley into the sardines and squeeze some more lemon juice into the mixture. Serve the sardine combination on toast.


Sandwich with Sardines and Tomatoes

If you like eating sandwiches and you are searching for inspiration, we suggest that you try this following recipe. To make one serving, you will need a can of quality sardines, one ripe tomato, one garlic clove and a thick baguette.

First, toast the baguette and cut the clove in half. Use the garlic by rubbing it over the inside part of the baguette. Cut the tomato in half and rub the flesh of the tomato over the bread.  Add the sardines and serve it.


Sardine Salad

Another highly appreciated Mediterranean recipe involves the use of salad leaves, a tablespoon of black olives, two cans of sardines in tomato sauce (120 g each), one tablespoon of oil and one tablespoon of red wine vinegar.

Divide the salad leaves in as many servings as you want (use different plates) and then add the capers and the olives. In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, the vinegar and the sardines in tomato sauce. Drizzle the mixture over the salad and you are done!

Sardine pizza

Another recipe that you might like to try involves putting sardines on pizza. As ingredients, you will need pre-made pizza dough, pizza sauce, arugula, two cloves of garlic, slices of onion, slices of sweet peppers, and sardines (canned and halved).

First, preheat the oven to 500 degrees (F) and then take out the dough. Place the dough in a pan and add a layer of pizza sauce to cover it. Next, take a handful of arugula and layer it over the sauce. Add the onion slices, the sweet peppers the garlic and the sardines. Bake the pizza in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Take the pizza out of the oven and serve it to your loved ones.


Stuffed Sardines

To prepare this fun recipe, you should buy ¼ cup breadcrumbs, ¼ cup Pecorino Romano cheese (shredded), ¼ cup ricotta cheese, ¼ cup (parsley), 3 eggs, one lemon, half a teaspoon of salt, half a teaspoon ground pepper, ⅓ cup flour, 12 medium fresh sardines (gutted, without tails and heads), 2 cups panko breadcrumbs, and 1½ cups (extra) virgin olive oil.

Mix the ricotta cheese, the Romano cheese, the parsley, the fresh bread crumbs, one egg, the lemon juice, ¼ teaspoon of salt and some pepper. Rinse the sardines and dry them using paper towels. Season their insides and add pepper. Stuff each sardine with two teaspoons of the mixture that contains cheese.

In a dish, place the flour in a dish and beat the two eggs in a bowl. In a third dish, add the panko. Take each sardine and dip it in the flour, then in the egg and, lastly in the panko. Heat the oil in a skillet and then fry the sardines until they get a golden color. Serve them hot.


Sardines & Mint on Toast

To start, make sure that you have a can of boneless and skinless sardines, two tablespoons of fresh mint (chopped), two tablespoons of olive oil, half a tablespoon of salt, half of a ripe tomato, a thinly sliced tomato, and three slices of bread.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (F), add the sardines, the mint, the oil and the salt in a bowl and mix them as well as you can. Cut off the crust of the bread and cut the bread into even triangles. Bake them until they get golden brown. Next, rub the tomato on the slices and then add the sardine mix on top of every triangle. The onion slices should be added on top of the mixture.
